Service Selection Board

A selection system is meant to select the right material for the right job. SSB's / AFSB's select potential candidates who after training at various defence academies would become effective officers in the defence services.

Each candidate is assessed simultaneously and independently using three techniques on the same variables by the three assessors :-

Interviewing Officer – Using Interview Technique
Group Testing Officer – Using Situational Group Task
Psychologist – Using Projective Tests

The basic procedure of selection at the Services Selection Boards (SSBs) aims at assessment of candidates on qualities of military leadership, ie Officer–Like–Qualities (OLQs) for the officer cadre in the Indian Armed Forces. The leadership assessments are supplemented by assessment on appropriate aptitudes eg pilot & navigation for the IAF and IN.
